Pinhole Photography Workshop (version française)

photo de sténopé

Discover the origins of photography! Hand made cameras (in less than 5 minutes!), no fancy lenses to produce magical photographs! No batteries, no digital sensors, aperture adjustments...not even a viewfinder! We'll go back to the beginnings of photography, well before even the earliest photographic images. We'll adopt Renaissance era photo techniques to transform the world around us into unexpected worlds! So easy and great fun to transform even the most ordinary scenes into something surprising and magical.

To begin, we'll build (adapt) our own cameras from small metal containers (The cylindrical Illy brand coffee containers are perfect). Once created (a small puncture in the side and a few pieces of black tape) we'll place black and white photo paper in the container and take our new pinhole cameras out into the world to capture our first images. Explanations will be given to help students calculate how much time is necessary to get an adequate exposure of the photo paper. We'll have a chance to capture a number of different images, developing each one in a simple darkroom set up before going on to show how we can transfer our "negatives" into positives in the darkroom by the end of the workshop.

Sign up for this fun and easy to learn workshop where you'll learn:
• to make your own pinhole camera !
• to use this camera to make your own photographs
• to develop your own negatives and make positives in the darkroom.

What to bring:
If you can find a small Illy brand coffee canister, these are the simplest to transform. Otherwise, look for small cylindrical containers that are all-metal (including the top). We'll supply all other mateials needed (needles, black tape, photo paper and chemistry, scissors, etc.)

Price: 95 € per person (reduction if two people sign up together (175 € instead of 190€) or if you take both pinhole and cyanotype workshops together. (175 € instead of 190€)).
Dates:
Saturday, june 7th, 14h30-17h30 or Tuesday, june 17th, 14h30-17h30
